Life Changing Accident
I am physically disabled due to the cumulative effects of some rare neurological and metabolic diseases. The gist of it is that my body can’t make energy like a typical person, and my nervous system has trouble adjusting to simple environmental changes like changes in posture or room temperature without disrupting vital things like my blood pressure and heart rate. Using a wheel chair that can recline gives me a way to manage my nervous system dynamically throughout the day, and rest my muscles as needed.
I moved out of Creative Living recently after two happy years. I got married and moved in with my husband. We’re building our dream house now, incorporating many accessibility elements that I had in my apartment at CL!
What CL Means to Me
After being sick for years and becoming so dependent on others for every aspect of my care, I had to relearn to function independently. For the sake of my self esteem, and to get on with my life. Creative Living gave me the opportunity to do that in a supportive, understanding environment. Most importantly, my family felt peace of mind with me being there. You can’t imagine the worry family members go through letting their loved one be more independent when literally it could be a life or death matter if something goes really wrong.
Message to our supporters
You’re giving people their lives back. You can’t put a price tag on that. I can’t express enough gratitude for that gift. I count my blessings every day.
